On March 15, 2006, Professor Thomas Misa, University of Minnesota, presented  “Industrial Structure and Urban Strategies: Lessons from History in a Global Age.” His presentation drew on a five-year study of European cities, and their adaptations to technological change and globalization. This study highlighted the way that social forces, material structures, and cultural practices have allowed European cities to retain local character in the face of seemingly unstoppable global homogenization. His work is relevant to the theme of the Viscogliosi Economic Leadership Seminar as we in Southeast Michigan look for new ways to think about the challenges of our region.
