Enrollment

Preschool/Pre-K
Thank you for your interest in the University of Michigan-Dearborn Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC) program.  Please visit the Applications page to print applications and the Tuition and Fees page for our program rates.

When filling out the application, be sure to indicate the term (Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer) and year for which you would like your child to be considered for enrollment. Please see the tuition rate sheet for ECEC hours.  Return your application to UM-Dearborn, Early Childhood Education Center, 18501 Rotunda Dr., Suite 300, Dearborn, MI  48124 along with a $20.00 processing fee (per application).  Please make your check payable to the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

All applications for new children are placed on a continuous waiting list.  When we reach your application on the waitlist, you will be contacted with available openings.  After you decline an offered opening three times, your application will be moved to the end of the waitlist.  If there is not an opening for your child during the term for which you apply, your child will remain on the waiting list for the next term.

Kindergarten
The UM-Dearborn Early Childhood Education Center Kindergarten is designed to educate the whole child physically, intellectually, emotionally, socially, linguistically and aesthetically. It is based upon research of leading psychologists and educators such as Piaget, Erikson and Vygotsky. The program utilizes the long-term arts based project approach as adapted from the Reggio Emilia inspired approach to early childhood education.

The Kindergarten program addresses the needs of the developing child and provides many educational opportunities. These opportunities stimulate children as they learn at their own rate and pace as they construct their own knowledge, think critically, solve problems and make decisions. Learning is an active process both physically and mentally. The ECEC Kindergarten classroom will reflect this vigorous activity. The program provides many opportunities for children to manipulate a wide variety of materials as they work independently, in groups and with their teachers.

Kindergarten spots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Children must be 5 years old by December 1, 2011 to enroll in the UM-Dearborn ECEC Kindergarten for the 2011-2012 school year. To learn more about the UM-Dearborn ECEC Kindergarten, please call (313) 593-5424 to schedule a tour.
