Know the Rules and Regulations
As a J-1 international student you must understand the immigration rules and regulations that affect your stay in the U.S. The Alternate or Responsible Officials can guide you with the rules, procedures and regulations. J-1 students must meet certain obligations in order to maintain legal immigration status. Maintaining status is necessary in order to receive the benefits of J-1 status such as employment and program extension and can be crucial to a successful application for a change or adjustment of status. Failure to maintain nonimmigrant status can result in serious problems with immigration and could lead to deportation form the U.S.
